In a moment of unfiltered sincerity, Doja Cat expressed remorse to her New Jersey fans for a performance that didn't meet her own standards. With seven "Scarlet" Tour dates remaining, the rapper commits to ramping up the excitement for her fans.
oja Cat, the 28-year-old rapper, performed a 24-track set at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., on November 30 as part of the North American "Scarlet" Tour.
After leaving the stage, Doja took to her Instagram story to post an apology to her fans:
“I’m so f--king sorry New Jersey. I don’t know what the f--k that was. I’m really not happy with my energy tonight,” Doja wrote, overlaying the text on an image that appears to be of a broken snack on the dirty floor.
Videos from the night, shared by the fan account on X, show Doja Cat sporting a short blonde wig, white top, and G-string on stage.
One of the clips captured Doja’s very straightforward message to the backstage crew: “Turn the f--king fan on,” she sang, “Bitch, I need a fan,” while substituting the original lyrics during the “Agora Hill” performance.
Meanwhile, Doja’s interaction with the crowd between tracks seemed to elicit a positive response. The audience cheered when she asked, “How’s everybody doing tonight?” followed by Doja’s confession: “I’m just happy I’m here… is this sold out?”
Doja Cat is now more than halfway through the ‘Scarlet’ Tour, in support of the eponymous album released on September 22 (you can read "Scarlet" review here), which debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 and achieved the rapper’s second-ever Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 with “Paint the Town Red.”
With only seven concerts left, Doja still has a chance to redeem herself and deliver a Grammy nominee-worthy performance. Will she manage to meet fans' expectations, or will she fall flat? Time will tell.
