T

he scene at the Saddledome, on December 16, was electrifying as the Calgary Flames faced off against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Amidst the sea of red jerseys and the roar of the crowd, one spectator stood out: Tate McRae, the city's own rising star in the global music scene.

The broadcast took a moment to celebrate Tate’s homecoming and mentioned that she was with her brother Tucker McRae, who is also the captain of the AJHL’s Okotoks Oilers.

As the game progressed, Tate genuinely cheered for the team and celebrated the Flames' victory over the Lightning with a score of 4-2.

Tate McRae was also presented with a Flames jersey featuring her name alongside the number 8, which belongs to Chris Tanev on the 2023-24 roster. Christopher Tanev (born December 20, 1989) is a Canadian professional ice hockey defenseman and alternate captain for the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League (NHL).

Tate McRae's connection to hockey extends beyond the rink; it is a recurring theme in her artistic expression. Her public appearances often feature attire reminiscent of sports uniforms, reflecting her affinity for the athletic aesthetic. This is prominently displayed on the cover of her album "Think Later," where hockey shin pads are creatively used to represent the album's title.

In her music video for the song “Greedy,” she was featured driving a Zamboni and dancing in what appeared to be a small-town ice rink, a choice emblematic of a Canadian singer. McRae also references her hometown in her “Think Later” album, with a song titled “Calgary.”
