Apple's September 9, 2024, It’s Glowtime event featured the world premiere of The Weeknd's cinematic music video “Dancing in the Flames,” filmed entirely in 4K using the iPhone 16 Pro's groundbreaking Dolby Vision and 120fps capabilities, building excitement for his upcoming album "Hurry Up Tomorrow."
In a dramatic reveal at the It’s Glowtime event on September 9, 2024, Apple surprised audiences with a preview of The Weeknd’s latest music video, “Dancing in the Flames,” shot entirely on the iPhone 16 Pro. Directed by Anton Tammi and shot by Erik Henrikkson, the video takes full advantage of the iPhone 16 Pro’s revolutionary 4K 120fps Dolby Vision technology.
The new track, “Dancing in the Flames,” is part of The Weeknd’s highly anticipated album "Hurry Up Tomorrow," which continues his thematic trilogy, following After Hours (2020) and Dawn FM (2022). While the official release date for the album has yet to be confirmed, fans got an exciting preview of seven new tracks during his sold-out concert at Estádio Morumbi in São Paulo, Brazil, on September 7, 2024. The iPhone 16 Pro, powered by the A18 Pro chip, takes smartphone video recording to a new level with its ability to shoot in 4K at 120 frames per second using Dolby Vision. This advanced feature enabled the video’s slow-motion, cinematic effects, which highlight The Weeknd’s movements with dreamlike precision. According to Henrikkson, shooting at such high frame rates allowed the production team to "slow down reality" and create a surreal visual atmosphere.
With “Dancing in the Flames” set to officially premiere on September 13, 2024, anticipation continues to build for "Hurry Up Tomorrow," an album that promises to push the boundaries of music and technology even further.
