Paris Club Foundations

Pierre David Guetta was born on November 7, 1967, in Paris and began spinning records professionally in the city's clubs during the late 1980s, holding early residencies that made him a fixture of the French scene. In the early 1990s he founded Gum Productions and issued Up & Away in 1994 with American vocalist Robert Owens, an early signal of the vocal-house direction that would define his career.

With his then-wife Cathy he launched the F*** Me I'm Famous party brand in Ibiza in 2001, and the albums Just a Little More Love (2002) with singer Chris Willis and Pop Life (2007) built a substantial European following years before American radio knew his name.

One Love and the Great Crossover

When Love Takes Over, his 2009 single with former Destiny's Child singer Kelly Rowland, became the template: piano-house drama beneath a proven pop voice. One Love added Sexy Bitch with Akon, and Guetta co-produced Black Eyed Peas' I Gotta Feeling, one of the decade's best-selling downloads. The formula won him his first Grammy, Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical, for the When Love Takes Over electro extended remix at the February 2010 ceremony.

Nothing But The Beat (2011) scaled the model worldwide through Titanium with Sia, Without You with Usher, and Turn Me On with Nicki Minaj, and a second Grammy followed at the 2011 ceremony for his One Love Club remix of Madonna's Revolver, shared with Afrojack. Critics debated whether DJ-as-frontman billing diluted dance culture, but the economics were undeniable: producers now sold arenas.

Reinvention Between Eras

Listen (2014) and 7 (2018) kept him on pop radio with Hey Mama and Say My Name, the latter album gathering collaborators such as Sia, Bebe Rexha, Anne-Marie, and J Balvin into a double-album survey of his range. He protected his club standing through Jack Back, an alias reserved for house releases, and through Future Rave, a harder-edged project developed with Danish producer MORTEN from 2019. During pandemic lockdowns his streamed sets, including one staged atop the Louvre, kept him visible when clubs closed.

DJ Mag's Top 100 DJs poll crowned him the world's number one in 2011 and again in 2020, 2021, and 2023, evidence of a second act few expected after the initial EDM wave receded. His catalogue's durability showed up in streaming as well: label-issued biographies credit tracks such as Hey Mama, Titanium, and I'm Good (Blue) with multi-billion-stream totals, an unusual plateau for dance repertoire.

Late-Career Commercial Peak

I'm Good (Blue), his 2022 single with Bebe Rexha built on Eiffel 65's Blue, became a generational earworm, topping US pop and dance radio formats and accumulating billions of streams, and earned a Best Dance/Electronic Recording nomination at the 2023 Grammys. Baby Don't Hurt Me with Anne-Marie and Coi Leray followed with another nomination a year later.

A steady 2024-2025 release cadence produced I Don't Wanna Wait with OneRepublic, Supernova Love with K-pop group IVE, Forever Young with Ava Max and Alphaville, which gave Guetta a record seventeenth number one on Billboard's Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart, Beautiful People with Sia in March 2025, and Lucky with MORTEN, alongside a Grammy-nominated remix of HUNTR/X's Golden; by December 2025 he had become the first artist with twenty Dance/Mix Show Airplay number ones, including a record four in 2025 alone. Per the Recording Academy he now holds two wins from fifteen nominations.

The volume has been deliberate. In the year before his 2025 poll victory DJ Mag noted he had released more than a single per month, and label biographies credit I Don't Wanna Wait alone with more than 900 million streams. Few artists of any genre have sustained this output across four decades, let alone while topping public polls originally dominated by a far younger generation of DJs.

Fifth Crown, Monolith Scale, and 2026 Momentum

On October 1, 2025, DJ Mag named Guetta the World's No. 1 DJ for a fifth time, matching Martin Garrix and Armin van Buuren's record of five poll victories, with results announced live at the newly opened UNVRS venue in Ibiza. His Galactic Circus residency ran there from June through October 2025, complemented by a Las Vegas residency at LIV Beach.

His touring Monolith production, built around a monumental LED centerpiece, carried him from Saudi Arabia's AlUla to Paris's Stade de France, and 2026 releases included Save Me Tonight with Jennifer Lopez and Human with Third Party and John Martin. More than four decades after his first Paris sets, Guetta remains among the few dance artists whose commercial center of gravity has never fully shifted away.
