American-born, Glasgow-based artist A. Wesley Chung returns with radiant new single ‘Sunshine (You Know You Should)’, a genre-blending, groove-laced single inspired by gospel roots, indie folk aesthetics, and a deep belief in the power of community.

Driven by a disco-adjacent rhythm, gospel piano and Chung’s heartfelt lyricism, ‘Sunshine’ is a powerful meditation on emotional endurance, healing, and the quiet strength of support networks. The track features LA vocalist Rachel Gonzalez, whose soaring soulful harmonies bring a celebratory lift to the song’s chorus. Notably, the piano was recorded by Chung’s father, a former gospel choir co-leader in Long Beach, California, grounding the track in both personal memory and musical legacy.

“This is the most groove-centred track I’ve ever made,” says Chung. “It’s inspired by the gospel music I grew up hearing my dad play, but with my indie voice and some R&B and disco sensibilities folded in. It’s a song about remembering the good, especially in difficult situations and trusting that love and community are still there, even when things feel heavy.”

Lyrically, the song draws from Chung’s work in the mental health field and his experiences supporting individuals through long-term recovery. Written in part as a message to a family member navigating a difficult time, ‘Sunshine (You Know You Should)’ offers compassion without cliché, a gentle anthem for those struggling to keep going, urging them to “keep your head up and you’ll see the good.” As Chung explains, “sometimes music allows me to say what I can’t in conversation, to express care, to express hope, without needing to explain it all.”

The track also marks a moment of evolution in Chung’s solo catalogue, building on the lush sonic palette of his debut album Neon Coast while stepping confidently into richer, more rhythm-driven territory. Produced by D. Scobie (VanIves, Becky Sikasa), the single strikes a balance between groove and groundedness, nostalgia and forward motion. It is both a nod to Chung’s Californian upbringing and a testament to the collaborative, cross-cultural artistry he's cultivated in Scotland.

Following acclaimed performances at End of the Road Festival, SXSW and Union Chapel, collaborations with artists such as Into It. Over It., Jo Mango and The Magic Lantern, Chung continues to carve out a space that is unmistakably his own: genre-fluid, emotionally generous and grounded in a deep sense of human connection.
