About the Single: "Cray Cray"

"Cray Cray" is a deeply personal and introspective track that delves into the choices we make in life and their impact on our personal journey. Conhis explains the inspiration behind the song:

One day, I heard 'Cray Cray’s' melody and lyrics in my head out of the blue. At first, I thought they were a bit ridiculous and not my usual style, but they were so persistent that I just had to record them. The lyrics came easily, like a stream of consciousness. It’s always interesting when a song comes to me in this way. I like to think it’s my subconscious trying to make itself heard, and it’s a surprise for me what the song is actually about until the track is finished. It turned out to be about the choices we make in life, what we have achieved, and if it was the right choice for me to be childless. Also, if I’m sometimes just crazy or curious, or if those things are, in fact, the same.”

About the Album: "Chapters"

"Cray Cray" is part of Conchis' debut solo album, "Chapters," which delves into the depths of human psychology, exploring themes of loss, yearning, consumption, and desperation. Named after a character from John Fowles' enigmatic novel, "The Magus," Conhis draws inspiration from the book's suspenseful and twisted narrative. Finding parallels between "The Magus" and the symbolism of the tarot card, The Magician, Conhis intertwines these elements throughout her album, sampling sounds reminiscent of earth, water, air, and fire.

Despite grappling with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) during the creation of "Chapters," Conchis persevered, allowing only five vocal takes per song. This constraint infuses the album with rawness and vulnerability, reflecting her journey through illness and artistic expression.

About:

Growing up in the Finnish archipelago, Conchis discovered her love for music at an early age. In the remote countryside, she nurtured her creativity and developed her own imaginative world. She started singing before she could even talk, picked up the violin at seven, joined a choir a few years later, and began writing her own songs with a guitar at fifteen.

Conchis crafts her music around the dichotomies of light and dark, beauty and roughness. Her eclectic style blends electronic, pop, and experimental music with touches of cinematic soundscapes, creating a sound that is both unique and captivating.

Contacts:

In Finland, Kieku ja Kaiku is a popular cartoon from the 1950s, starring two chickens sowing mischief across their forrest land. Their names are onomatopoeias for the rooster’s crow—cock-a-doodle-doo, loud, brash, and eye-opening. Finland’s KIEKU RECORDS takes its name from these unofficial mascots, borrowing from childhood nostalgia but also carrying an important message. It’s time for the music industry to wake up.
