Norwegian punk, garage rock & power pop stalwarts Death By Unga Bunga release new single and announce upcoming album Raw Muscular Power!
“It’sexhaustingto try to stay up to speed about what’s hip and what young people are doing. Sometimes it’s ok to just float down the river of time with an umbrella drink in your hand.”
Looks like rock is back on the menu! Death By Unga Bunga are back with their second dig at the widespread epidemic – male insecurity. This time around, they deal with their problems through pure Raw Muscular Power!
The band has completed a remarkable round of exposure therapy, and the result is ten new chapters about a masculine self-image that’s cracking up.
Raw Muscular Power is Death By Unga Bunga’s hardest rocking record so far. After a wild and eye-opening performance at Norway’s Tons of Rock festival, the band set out to write even wilder songs than before. The new sound is dumber and rawer, and the result is 10 really good rock songs, chock full of confused testosterone and hooks that get stuck on your brain.
For the first time in the band’s history, they’ve also brought some celebrity friends with them. Wisconsin garage rock hero Mike Krol joins in on the shouting on “Therapy”, while Haley Shae of Sløtface guests the Paul Stanley-tribute “Starchild”. While both artists bring their unique star power to the songs, they are elegantly incorporated into the Bunga boys’ sound.
Death By Unga Bunga’s lyrical imagery tells stories about seemingly perfect facades that are crumbling. On Raw Muscular Power, we meet cocksure idiots who are obviously in the wrong, one way or another: The guy who works 9 to 5 in an office, but dreams of manual labor without acknowledging how lucky he is (the title track). Or the dude who obsesses about his own mortality and ageing, even though he’s only in his early thirties (“I’m Really Old”).
Last but not least, you get “Ring meg hvis du trenger en venn” (“call me if you need a friend” – DBUB’s first song in their native language, Norwegian – an appeal to take care of the people around you. Do you need a friend? Or five friends, even? Death By Unga Bunga are there for you, and everyone’s invited.
“I’m Really Old" is out now on Jansen Records and available on all streaming services.
Raw Muscular Power will be released on Jansen Records February 7th, 2025.
