"The Blind Liar" is the first ballad from Standing Crew, but it defies the conventions of a traditional, slow love song. Instead, it emerges as a power ballad brimming with raw energy. The dynamic combination of drums, bass, and electric guitar is enhanced by keyboards and an acoustic guitar, creating a rich and powerful sound.
The song's narrative centers on a narcissistic personality—someone who will stop at nothing to gain power over others. This person sees lying as a right, justifying the means by the ends they achieve. Whether it's a friend, a neighbor, or a metaphorical dictator next door, this character is blind to the consequences of their actions or oblivious to the fact that everyone else can see through their facade. Despite being a pitiful excuse for a man, he garners no sympathy.
"The Blind Liar" is also notable for being the first release by Standing Crew's new lineup. Mr. Fire leads with vocals, supported by J. the Circle on drums, keyboards, and backing vocals. Pikku handles the bass and acoustic guitar, also providing backing vocals, while Jules brings powerful guitar riffs to the mix.
Composed and arranged by Standing Crew, this song marks the beginning of a collaboration with lyricist Big Timm Kivisto, a long-time friend of the band. Mr. Fire reflects, “Yeah, we go back a long way. We’ve been friends since high school, in fact.” Despite their enduring friendship, this is their first joint effort. Big Timm adds, “He’s been making music forever, and I’ve been writing my own stuff for some time now, too. It’s really quite astonishing that we’ve never written a song together before. So, you see, I’m really thrilled by this new venture.” The collaboration is off to a strong start, with several new songs already in the works.
